Best Value and Service on Viking Kara River Cruises
We have been on many cruises from the big cruise lines, to paddle boats, to (real) 5 masted clipper ships, this was our first river cruise and it was wonderful! The captain and crew all went above and beyond their duties. The food was wonderful and so was the entertainment. The cruise director was one of the best ones we have ever had; everyday there was something to laugh about, and she even got my husband up to do the chicken dance and I have the picture to prove it. I wish that we could have gone inside the Heidelberg castle and not just the grounds. Very nice having water bottles given to us on the way off the ship and especially the juice drink coming back on to the shop. Such a smooth cruise... just sitting on top deck watching all the castles going by. I will recommend a Viking river cruise to all my friends.
Well organized-courteous & helpful staff-delicious meals with great choices-great tour guides-wonderful accomodations
Vince was very responsive to my numerous questions and helped us get free air and room upgrade plus ship credit and use existing credit. I did have to call the day before departure and another agent sent me the correct link to get my travel insurance policy cards etc
The Viking travel experience was truly first class in the boat, the stateroom, the service and the people. They were excellent in every aspect of making the vacation comfortable.
River cruise was great, ship's staff focus on details and provide unexpected extras.
Good Service
Enjoyed this cruise very much but preferred overall the Amsterdam to Budapest cruise
You cannot go wrong with a Viking River Cruise! From the moment we arrived at the ship, the staff could not do enough for us! Always smiling and having a great time. We enjoyed this trip very much! You can do as much as you like or as little, it was nice to take a day and just relax on the ship and do nothing but enjoy the passing scenery! I would highly recommend Viking!!
We were disappointed we could not travel 360 km from Basel to Rudesheim on the Rhine River due to the German authorities shutting down sections of the river.
The Viking River Cruise met all expectations. The trip was enjoyable and the Viking staff was tremendous
The Explorer suite on the Viking Kara is beautiful to behold but a nightmare to live in when the ship is moving. The wraparound deck is not habitable while under way because of the prop noise. The suite vibrates excessively while underway so much it is not possible for a light sleeper to rest while moving. Didn't sleep for three days. The amenities were fantastic but didn't make up for the discomfort. When we go again I'll reserve a balcony suite.
Flight schedule from Budapest to Tampa was too long for people in their 70's and resulted in trip time of 27 hours from leaving ship to arriving in Tampa. I should have suggested breaking the return in two sections with a layover of a least one night.
The side trips were not worth the price paid.
The water was too low, we sat on the ship and bused most everywhere
The ship was new, the staff professional and willing to please, the food excellent, and the wine at lunch and dinner plentiful. The Rhine River cruise was an excellent value. Especially noteworthy was Strausbourg, Heidelberg, and Cologne. To fully enjoy a Viking River Cruise it helps to have good walking shoes and practice walking prior to the trip.

The trip was perfectly organized - the ground work was set by Affordable Tours and our Viking Cruise went exactly as planned and without a hitch. Our travel was comfortable and easy and the two days extra in Nuremberg went smoothly with taxi rides etc. very well organized. I would certainly recommend the trip to anyone and everyone, and I would recommend that they book it through Affordable Tours.
