Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
Gate 1 was an excellent tour provider. They were attentive to tourists needs and even anticipated things to make the trip go smoothly, They provided excellent local guides and introduced us to local foods to enhance our experience of China.
Most hotels met or exceeded my expectations. Tour guides we're pleasant and knowledgeable, although one was very difficult to understand. Meals were good. Site seeing was exactly as described.2 of the hotels were a bit dated but 2 we're fantastic. Overall a great experience.
I had not traveled with a tour before and I had heard horror stories from friends and family about tours they had been on. I was very happy with our tour and accommodations. We saw so many wonderful things. The local guides were great. The bus drivers were great. She was amazing and handled all the different personalities of our group in a professional way. She is amazing. My one issue was the shopping. While I wanted to shop and did indeed purchase an expensive jade bracelet and pearls, I did feel the sales people in the jade store and pearl store were a little too aggressive. As a person from California I found it disturbing to be constantly followed in a store by a sales person and called "lady, lady". But, I still bought what I wanted to buy.
I may not use the gate one transfers in the future. Instead of our transfer dropping us off curbside he dropped us off in a parking garage for another terminal. He said it was a short walk. Well it isn't when you have all your luggage in tow. I also found from the guy in line in front of us 10 minutes earlier there was no line at the check in. Due to us not being dropped off curb side. We got to stand in line for an hour and a half to check in. If their transfers are going to do this they need to leave the boat earlier as we didn't have a lot of time by the time we got to the gate prior to boarding. The only other issue we had which they apologized for was they sent our bus off from a Christmas Market without the other busses due to a couple getting on the wrong bus. Unfortunately our bus driver didn't know his way back. Once someone finally figured out he spoke Romanian, someone got in touch with the cruise director. Who had to get someone to communicate to him that he had to drive all the way back to where we were to cross the river to drive back down the other side. The bus drivers should know where they are going & be able to communicate in basic English. Or have a sign what language they speak so we could have told him what he needed to do, so we were not sitting on the side of the road. Gate One apologized several times and made sure we had time at the other Christmas Market and dinner when we finally made it back. They also gave us a Christmas mug as an apology. Things happen but could have been avoided if he had the proper GPS for a bus.
Pleasantly surprised at good quality, drinks offered, optional tours!
The water level was not high enough to sail so we had tp complete the last few days via land travel. Gate 1 went out of their way to make the experience comfortable.
Gate 1 has wide choices of tours
We were delighted with the Gate1 River cruise. staff was professional, competent, courteous and friendly. food and service excellent. cabin efficient and clean. Itinerary was the right balance between guided tours and free time. we loved the small towns more than the large cities. many people on board were sick and the crew handled this expertly. space on board the ship is limited since the upper deck was off limits for much of the time but we were sailing mostly in the evenings after a full day's activities so it did not feel restrictive. we would definitely consider another river cruise and will definitely go on other tours with Gate1.
Gate 1 service and food is excellent, while the price is lower than other operators. I can't imagine the other operators having sufficiently better service to justify paying more.
Gate 1 Danube River cruise exceeded our expectations and provided terrific service AND value! Beautiful ship and fabulous staff. Don't let their 'travel for less' slogan mislead you: they deliver FULL VALUE and service. We would travel with them again in a heartbeat.
Our tour agent, Allyson, was very helpful and kept us in constant touch about itinerary changes.
Although we had to cut our trip short due to an illness. Shannon was there to make sure everything was taken care of.
Gate 1 travel did an outstanding job on providing a top flight tour and a very reasonable price.
The new boat was fabulous with many amenities, conveniences, and was state of the art. The entire crew, reception staff, wait service, tour directors, kitchen staff, entertainment, cabin staff, etc., was exceptional. The food exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to book again with the operator.

The tour guide (Joe) was excellent. He met us at the terminal in Beijing, and stayed with the group until we had all boarded the return flight to New York City. All the tickets were on time, and the busses were all on time. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the areas of China that we visited. This was our first trip with Gate1, however we will look first at Gate1 for future travel arrangements.
