- Day 1AmsterdamWed, Jun 10, 2026
A city of charming canals, elegant gabled houses, splendid museums and abundant bicycles, the Dutch capital of Amsterdam is a delight to explore. Its patchwork of waterways forms about 90 islands connected by 1,500 bridges. The legacy of the Dutch Golden Age lives on in gilded manses and in the lush paintings of Rembrandt and other Dutch masters that adorn the Rijksmuseum, The Netherlands' grand repository of art and cultural history. Discovering Amsterdam is a pleasure best pursued on foot; visitors line the tranquil canals and linger over Dutch pancakes, or take a stroopwafel to go.
- Day 2KinderdijkThu, Jun 11, 2026
Kinderdijk is a village community in the Alblasserwaard province. This corner of South Holland, part of the scenic Waal and Merwede regions, has long been shaped by Rhine Delta waters. Kinderdijk is most known for its 19 remarkably preserved 18th-century windmills. The charming hamlet is located amid low-lying polders, tracts of land reclaimed from the sea by the power of the windmills and enclosed by embankments, or dikes. This legendary place calls to mind the 1865 novel Hans Brinker, in which a heroic boy plugs his finger into a ruptured dike.
- Day 3CologneFri, Jun 12, 2026
Cologne reveals its Roman heritage in its city layout and the ancient ruins that lie scattered through the town. Cologne's modern plazas and Hohe Strasse host welcoming shops, enticing restaurants and cologne boutiques. Of note is the city's 13th-century cathedral, a stunning example of Gothic artistry and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Having survived Allied bombs during World War II, the cathedral's imposing twin spires are visible for miles and its stained glass windows fill the interior with brilliant colored light. Its steps lead to a platform with astounding views.
- Day 4Scenic Sailing: Middle RhineSat, Jun 13, 2026
The Rhine River flows through one of Germany's most scenic regions. As you sail its most picturesque stretch, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine, you will pass vineyard-blanketed hills whose steep slopes require vintners to pick grapes by hand, keeping a centuries-old tradition alive. Splendid castles line the banks, all of which have stories to share, and the Lorelei Rock presides at a dramatic curve in the river. This infamous river maiden mesmerized sailors with her song and lured them to their demise at her feet.
- Day 5SpeyerSun, Jun 14, 2026
The quiet German town of Speyer lies on the west bank of the Rhine. The city features a Romanesque imperial cathedral, burial place of eight emperors including some of the most famous Holy Roman Emperors. Speyer was once a major Celtic center that traded hands several times between the Romans and the Huns. The term Protestant originated here at the Diet of Speyer in 1529, when 14 free cities of Germany and six Lutheran princes protested the Edict of Worms that had banned the writings of Martin Luther and labeled him a heretic and enemy of the state.
- Day 6StrasbourgMon, Jun 15, 2026
The largest port on the Upper Rhine, Strasbourg is the cultural center of France's Alsace region. Thanks to its location at the border of France and Germany, it boasts a convivial mix of cultural influences. The well-preserved old town is enclosed on all sides by the little Ill River, with sites so compact that it is easy to explore the "island” on foot. And there is plenty to explore: cobblestone streets lined with wooden houses and intersected by picturesque canals. Indulging in Alsatian café culture is central to any visit here; enjoy coffee and cake amid lovely half-timbered houses.
- Day 7BreisachTue, Jun 16, 2026
Breisach is a gateway to the fabled Black Forest region, built on a basalt rock outcropping in the Rhine plain. It is located in one of the warmest parts of Germany, across the river from French Alsace, famous for its wine growing. But Breisach, too, can boast about its wine: it is home to Europe's largest cellars, with a storage capacity of more than 160 million liters. The most prominent landmark of Breisach is the Romanesque-Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral, built between the 12th and 13th centuries. Its two towers are visible from throughout the city and from the Rhine.

Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
We took the Danube river sailing and had a wonderful time. There was amazing fresh landscapes to amaze you around every curve, swans fishermen flowers cottages small towns castles some standing still some falling down too. I only took 1853 pictures this trip and will be back in a couple of years after taking other destinations on Viking River Cruises!
The last two nights of our trip we were placed in a less than desirable hotel not to the quality Viking is known for. I was very disappointed with the accommodations the last two days in Budapest.
This was a great trip. The itinerary as listed was quite general and we went to more places than mentioned on the itinerary. Unlike other tours I have been on where the ship stays docked while we are at a location, this one dropped us off for some tours and then continued down the river where we met it later. The itinerary showed the final destination for the day and not everywhere we would go. The ship was great and the food and staff above average. I would definitely recommend Viking.
Prague Hilton was very nice and the tour of Prague was very good. The cabin on the ship Viking Idun was much better than expected and the ship's crew did a great job in every aspect from room cleaning to food services. The Pullman hotel in Paris, while not outright bad, was at the low end of our accommodations. The included tours were for the most part pretty good and most of the guides were great. The bus tour of Paris lacked stops for photo taking which would have been nice. We will forever be grateful for the woman who guided us thru the airport for our Paris to New York flight. It was noontime and many of the airport workers took off leaving long lines of travelers waiting and the boarding pass machines were not working. This Viking rep walked us thru all the mess and got us to our flight on time. She was great! All in all it was a wonderful trip.
they were very organized!
It was a wonderful trip!!! Viking is top notch!! We bought vouchers for another trip!!
Every thing was great except we never got our travel packet with the trip explanation book. We could really have used that.
Believe it or not we thought Viking provided over and above what we expected, but the food was more than what we wanted or needed, it was well prepared and delicious but I would rather pay less, receive less and have a simpler food experience.
Great trip. Everything went well. Transfers removed any nervousness on our part.
Having gone on several ocean cruises, we would rather ocean cruise. More options at ports and better food plus love the entertainment
it was a great trip.
Viking has excellent staff. Food was great and selections were numerous. You could have as much wine or drink at meals. In the morning, they walked around with warm pastries. Loved the small size of the ship and the attentiveness of the staff. Service was the best! The excursions were great with very knowledgeable guides. The accommodations were great! However, the river cruises have numerous locks that the boat has to transit on the river. These can cause delays in reaching destinations and could result in not as desirable docking locations and impact the days activities.. ie less time at stops. Based on the itinerary, we thought we would dock like a cruise ship for several cities that we could easily visit from the ship in the evening. Instead for example for one, we ended up near container yard and you needed a taxi to get to town.if you could get a number and there was no cell service there either. Due to the high water levels, we could not use the upper deck of the boat for part of the trip and had little view ( just water) from the lowest grade cabin. Should consider the more expensive cabin level for better view and a little less noise.. However, that would not eliminate the numerous locks entered (total 44) and the hitting of the side walls of the locks by the crew that would wake you in the middle of the night and/or the rushing sound of water filling or emptying out of the locks. Wifi on the older ships (2012) is poor. The bandwidth could not support the passengers needs and the crew needs. We could only get it very early in the morning or late in the evening.
Trip was well done with the exception of Lufthansa Airlines. Hilton Hotel in Prague is very nice but room air conditioning was not very good and to cool room, one had to open window all night.
