- Day 1BudapestTue, Dec 14, 2027
Riverside beauty and a vibrant cultural scene blend together in Budapest to form one of Europe's most rewarding cities. Hungary's enchanting capital straddles the banks of the Danube, with traditional hillside Buda on one side and modern Pest on the other. By day, stunning art nouveau buildings, stalwart castles and grand palaces set the stage for inspiring strolls and long soaks in thermal spas. By night, the shimmering lights of the Parliament building dance across the waters of the Danube, the Chain Bridge uniting it all as a dramatic centerpiece.
- Day 2Scenic Sailing: Danube BendWed, Dec 15, 2027
Take in the natural beauty of the fabled “Blue Danube” as you pass through the Danube Bend, considered one of the most beautiful sections of the river. Cruising this 40-mile stretch through northern Hungary, you will see peaceful farmland and an ancient castle that once served as hunting grounds for royals and visiting dignitaries. As you sail the passage between the Börzsöny and Pilis Ranges, you will marvel at the steep hills draped with bucolic forests. And delight in the majestic church domes peering at the waterway from inviting villages and historic cities.
- Day 3ViennaThu, Dec 16, 2027
The yuletide season transforms Vienna’s beautiful squares into delightful Christmas markets. Festive lights illuminate the Old Town. The Schönbrunn market, set in front of the baroque Hapsburg summer palace, and Freyung market, nestled in the city center, are the perfect destinations for unique handmade decorations. Seasonal music and choral singing provide a merry ambience to holiday festivities in Am Hof Square, while the market at Belvedere Square mixes excellent shopping opportunities with views of the stately palace and adjacent lake to create a fairytale atmosphere.
- Day 4ViennaFri, Dec 17, 2027
Vienna is considered one of Europe's greatest cultural hubs. Its art scene has long been established with the Hapsburg's collection of fine art, now housed at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Today, Vienna's modern side showcases street art murals that don the side of buildings along the banks of the Danube. Ingrained in local life is the long-embraced tradition of coffeehouses; UNESCO includes Viennese coffeehouse culture on its list of Intangible Cultural Heritages. It is considered one of life's pleasures to while away an afternoon over an Einspänner coffee and a pastry.

Sail through a scenic tapestry of hillside vineyards, charming towns and castle ruins in Austria's Wachau Valley, celebrated as perhaps the most scenic stretch of the Danube. Journey 18 miles through this vast UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the river courses through idyllic countryside hamlets. Gaze upon the hibernating, wine-producing villages-the legacy of vintners that stretch as far back as Celtic and Roman times and an echo of the more than 30 monasteries that served as vineyards in Renaissance days.
- Day 6PassauSun, Dec 19, 2027
Centered around the beautiful St. Stephen’s Cathedral, home to Europe’s largest pipe organ, the romantic market stalls of the Christkindlmarkt are a delight to explore. An array of handmade goods, from tasty treats to ornaments, offer a wealth of opportunity to take home a unique artisan gifts created by local craftsmen. Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
Viking did an excellent job. The trip was great.
Great experience. We will do it again!
Great experience
Absolutely wonderful staff! The kitchen staff, specially the chefs and sous chefs accommodated my son's food allergies. Thank you very much!
Most Excursion tour guides were excellent as were most excursions. However, I do not feel the excursion to Szentendre, Hungary, while in Budapest, was a good value. Though the ceramic museum was interesting, the guide nor the museum attendants were very knowledgeable and the whole experience was perfunctory. A cafe trip and a bit of free time and a dull bus ride were altogether not worth the price paid. I would have preferred a guided tour of The Parliament in Budapest. Definitely need to add that as an optional.
Although the trip was pricey, we found Viking to be very organized, gracious, and accommodating. They provided a complete experience, and included everything necessary for a pleasant experience, without hesitation or needing any provocation.
THIS TRIP WAS FANTASTIC. We did have one ship transfer because of low water but Viking handled this very seamlessly. The only thing that could be improved on would be a couple of the evening meals were marginal.
This was our first River Cruise and it exceeded our expectations. Service on the ship was impeccable, from cleaning to dining. The local tour guides all spoke very good English, and although they sometimes gave us more history than we would remember, they were engaging and interesting. Busses were provided for city and optional tours and the drivers were incredible navigating huge busses through narrow streets. The cities on the itinerary were chosen well for their beauty and historical values. Altogether one of the best trips we have ever taken,
