Best Value and Service on Viking Idi River Cruises
This was our second Viking cruise. We chose them again because they exceeded our expectations on our first cruise.
Be sure you have comfortable walking shoes! We loved the walking tours. The food was excellent and just the right size portions.
The trip wa excellent and the tours offered were great. The ship was clean and the staff courteous.
Wonderful trip. Would be hard to improve.
We enjoyed our experience with Viking river cruise. We just wish our room wasn't so noisy as it seems we were located near the engine.
Their were a few bumps along the way,( none of them your fault) thoroughly enjoyed our stay down the Rhine.
If traveling with Viking Cruise line, always book your airline travel through them. If you have any problems, Viking will make sure it is fixed and the issue kept at a minimum.
We had to change ships due to low water level, Viking handled the switch as well as could be expected
This was our third Viking River cruise. We will look at other options in the future. Although some of the staff were veru good, we observed a number staff deficiencies in that a number of the servers were inexperinced having been with Viking only a few weeks. This was our second experince with the chef; he over sold a number of the dinners. Only 3/7 of the dinners were to any reasonable hotel standard.
A few trips listed as easy within the Vikibg tour were not easy walking
Where the boat is able to dock has a significant bearing on the trip quality. Our ship seemed to get poor moorings at many ports requiring us to take buses to destinations we should have been able to walk to. Sometimes the walk to the bus was a 10 or 15 minute walk.. The river cruise industry is in danger of killing the goose that laid the golden egg. there are too many ships with the same itinerary vying for docking space.
We enjoyed the busy schedule as we were then able to see much more than we would have on our own. We very much liked having a river boat tour as our luggage stayed in one room (with one boat change) and we did not need to pack/unpack more than this one time. We were happy with the room size which was like a motel room and we could move around the big boat any time we wanted. Boat staff were helpful and courteous when we had questions. Of course the weather was great but there is still lots of room to move about or sit and view the shore.

The hotel in Paris was totally unprepared for the amount of guests that came. Room wasnt made up and I had to go get towels myself. The breakfast buffet was a disaster. They only had 3 people working the restaurant and it was painfully obvious that they were not ready for us. They tried their best. I talked to the night manager and he expressed the difficulty that they were having in hiring competent staff (seems to be a common problem). The Hyatt in the Czech Republic was execellent. Truely, the difference was night and day. I would be very reluctant to recommend the Paris Hotel to anyone. Cabin on ship was excellent.
